Positioning

Sqz is the only image compressor on the Mac App Store that ships lossless JPEG → JPEG XL transcoding. It also outputs AVIF, WebP, HEIC, and modern JPEG via Google's jpegli encoder (35% smaller than mozjpeg at the same quality).

Sqz competes against ImageOptim (free but JPEG/PNG only), Squash 3 (subscription, no JPEG XL), and Zipic (off-MAS, 25-image daily cap on the free tier).
